Carlsbad Municipal Code

The Carlsbad Municipal Code is a collection of city laws (called ordinances) that have been adopted by the City Council over the years. It is periodically amended to remain consistent with state and federal laws, City Council policy direction and community standards.

In August 2017, city staff started about a year long effort to do a comprehensive update of the code, getting rid of outdated and inconsistent language and making the whole thing more user friendly (less "government-speak").

At a Special Meeting held Aug. 29, 2017, the City Council started this process with Chapter 1.20 - City Council Procedure (watch the video).
