The Carlsbad Municipal Code is a collection of city laws (called ordinances) that have been adopted by the City Council over the years. It is periodically amended to remain consistent with state and federal laws, City Council policy direction and community standards.
In August 2017, city staff started about a year long effort to do a comprehensive update of the code, getting rid of outdated and inconsistent language and making the whole thing more user friendly (less "government-speak").
At a Special Meeting held Aug. 29, 2017, the City Council started this process with Chapter 1.20 - City Council Procedure (watch the video). We've compiled the input and prepared the updated draft code sections for Council to consider at the Nov. 14, 2017, meeting, starting at 9 a.m. Some sections have been rearranged, and others have been deleted. The following are links to the redline version showing the proposed changes and a "clean" version of Chapter 1.20.
Anyone wishing to provide comments or suggestions relating to the proposed Code update in advance of the Nov. 14 meeting may e-mail the City Clerk's office at email@example.com or the City Council at firstname.lastname@example.org.
