City Honors Recycling Champions for America Recycles Day

In honor of America Recycles Day on Nov. 15, the City of Carlsbad is issuing a proclamation stating its commitment to providing programs to residents, businesses and visitors that promote recycling. America Recycles Day is an opportunity to recognize that each person can take steps to increase recycling and reduce waste in their community. The city offers several programs for residents and businesses to increase recycling in the community. One program promoting recycling in Carlsbad businesses is the Recycling Champions program. Each quarter, a Carlsbad business is recognized for their exemplary recycling and waste reduction activities, which encourages other businesses to follow in their example. The city is recognizing LEGOLAND California Resort as its fourth quarter Recycling Champion in 2016. 

At a Glance

  • All businesses in California are required to recycle by Assembly Bill 341. AB 341 establishes a statewide goal to keep 75 percent of trash out of landfills by the year 2020. 
  • The Recycling Champion Program is a partnership of the City of Carlsbad and Waste Management.  
  • Recycling Champions serve as role models for other Carlsbad businesses because of their recycling and waste reduction activities. 
  • 2016 Recycling Champions include:
    • Quarter 1: ViaSat
    • Quarter 2:  Dini’s by the Sea
    • Quarter 3: Miguel’s Cocina
    • Quarter 4: LEGOLAND California Resort

  • Nominations for the Recycling Champion are submitted by Waste Management based on several criteria including frequency of recycling, cleanliness of containers and recycling best practices.

  • America Recycles Day is the only nationally recognized day and coast-to-coast community-driven awareness campaign dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the United States. It has been held on Nov. 15 since 1997.
