Juried Biennial Opens 1/22

The City of Carlsbad’s Cultural Arts Office will feature the 2017 Juried Biennial exhibit from Jan. 22 through March 5, 2017 at William D. Cannon Art Gallery. 

At a Glance

  • The exhibit features 44 works of art by 35 artists. All featured artists live or work in San Diego County. 15 of the artists selected are from North County, including 4 from Carlsbad.

  • The Carlsbad Friends of the Arts will host an opening reception Saturday, Jan. 21, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Cannon Art Gallery.
  • This year’s jurors were Yevgeniya Mikhailik and Ginger Shulick Porcella. Mikhailik is an artist and curator of the Irvine Fine Arts Center. Shulick is the executive director of the San Diego Art Institute.
  • In addition to selecting artists in the Biennial, the jurors will award a total of $2,000 in cash prizes at the opening reception on Jan. 21, 2017.

More Information

  • The city accepted submissions from artists 18 years of age and older, who live, work or have a studio in San Diego County.
  • The city is hosting a Family Open Studios inspired by the exhibition on Saturday, Feb. 11, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Dove Library. Family Open Studios is a hands-on art making event is designed for all ages. Materials and workspace are provided.
  • Over the past 18 years, Cannon Art Gallery’s Juried Biennial exhibitions have become an important showcase for work of both emerging and mid-career artists in San Diego County.
