The Carlsbad City Library is looking for ideas to simplify the process of locating music CDs in the library’s music collection. Beginning July 10, the library is hosting an online survey and focus groups to get input from the community. Carlsbad City Library has a collection of about 11,500 music CD titles for patrons to enjoy. Through the online survey and focus groups, the library would like feedback on the CD collection, specifically to identify the most popular music genres and how to make accessing the music collection in the library more enjoyable.

Online survey: The online survey opens July 10 and is available through early August:
Focus groups: In addition to the online survey, the library is hosting focus groups in August, after all the surveys are completed. Focus group session dates and locations will be announced later. Focus groups will last 30 to 45 minutes. Each participant will receive a small thank you gift. If you’re a library user and interested in participating in a focus group, please contact Librarian Kim Tubbs-Nelson at firstname.lastname@example.org, 760-602-2032.
The libraries will soon be changing the way the music collections are organized, moving to a system based on music genres which is very similar to online music stores. This change will make it easier for library users to find the music they want quickly, especially if music is organized into categories of most interest to the community. A genre system is more user-friendly, can help patrons explore new types of music and is currently used more in public libraries than other music classification systems.
