Sunday, Aug. 26, 2 to 3:15 p.m. Los Pinguos Carlsbad City Library, Schulman Auditorium, 1775 Dove Lane
Los Pinguos came to the United States from Buenos Aires, Argentina, with a mixture of Latin rhythms, reggae, rumba flamenca and rock. Los Pinguos participated in the television show, “The Next Big Star” and won the grand prize. Since then, they have recorded seven CDs, appeared on the famous Putumayo World Music compilation albums and performed for fans across the world.
Sunday, Sept. 16, 2 to 3 p.m. Wish and the Well Georgina Cole Library, Community Room, 1250 Carlsbad Village Drive
Catching the spirit of pioneering roots artists like the Byrds, Gram Parsons and the Band, Southern California revivalists Wish and the Well released their San Diego Award winning debut, Darling, Darling, in 2017. Convening the sparse, elegant song structures of Americana with vibrant swaths of blues, soul and classic rock, the San Diego-based quartet have conjured a sound as arresting as it is weirdly beautiful.
The August concert is sponsored by the Carlsbad Library and Arts Foundation's Robert H. Gartner Cultural Endowment Fund, and the September concert is sponsored by Friends of the Carlsbad Library.
