Join the Winter Reading Challenge

Carlsbad City Library is kicking of the New Year with the Winter Reading Challenge for all ages, between Jan. 1 and Jan. 31. Carlsbad’s collective community reading goal for January 2020 is 125,000 minutes. Participation is free.

At a Glance

  • The challenge is open to readers of all ages.
  • Participants can sign up and track their reading through Beanstack, Carlsbad’s web-based reading tracker, the Beanstack tracker app (available for iOS and Android) or at any Carlsbad City Library location.
  • Readers who log at least four hours will earn a Subway restaurant coupon for a six-inch sub (ages 13 and up) or a free kid’s meal (ages 12 and under), while supplies last.
  • The last day to pick up Winter Reading Challenge rewards is Feb. 7.
  • Thousands of libraries and schools nationwide participate in the challenge to celebrate the enjoyment of reading.
  • Top-performing libraries and schools will earn the Golden Penguin and Random House awards.
