The City of Carlsbad is seeking residents interested in filling three vacancies on the City of Carlsbad Arts Commission for the term March 2020 to March 2024. Applications for this volunteer position are available on the city’s website or in the City Clerk’s Office, 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive. Applications must be submitted to the City Clerk's Office by noon on Monday, Feb. 24.
The Arts Commission advises the City Council on the implementation of the arts element of the Carlsbad General Plan. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Encouraging individuals and organizations that provide an educational experience in the arts for the citizens
Providing direction and support for continued development and presentation of a variety of arts in the city
Providing a forum for arts concerns and recommendations to the elected officials and their staff concerning arts issues
Reviewing and making recommendations upon all works of art to be acquired by the city, either by commission, purchase, gift or otherwise, and their proposed locations
Term: March 2020 to March 2024
The commission consists of seven members appointed by the Mayor with approval of the City Council. Members must be residents of Carlsbad and normally serve four-year terms (unless appointed to fill an unexpired term). Members are required to file a Statement of Economic Interests with the City Clerk and take mandatory Ethics Training every two years.
Meetings are held on the first Thursday of every month at 9 a.m. at the City Council Chamber located at 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive.
