Age-Friendly Carlsbad

Age-Friendly Carlsbad is a project through the American Association of Retired Persons’ Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities. With support from the San Diego Foundation Age-Friendly Communities Program, the goal of Age-Friendly Carlsbad is to develop the city's first Age-Friendly Action Plan. The action plan will use community participation and feedback to create goals for the implementation of policies and programs that enhance the quality of life in the community for people of all ages and abilities.

By 2035, the United States will — for the first time ever — be a country comprised of more older adults than of children. The U.S. Census Bureau projects there will be 78 million people age 65 and over compared to 76.4 million under the age of 18. We want Carlsbad to be ready.

Over the next year we will be collecting data and learning from the community about ways to increase the livability of Carlsbad across the age spectrum. AARP defines livability using the 8 Domains of Livability:

We Want to Hear from You

Thank you to everyone who participated in the project survey that was open through Sept. 13. We are currently reviewing the input that was shared and will be updating this section with the results next month.

Public input about the livability conditions of Carlsbad continues to be crucial to the development of the Age -Friendly Carlsbad plan.

Monday, Nov. 9, 9-10 a.m.
What is the Age-Friendly Carlsbad Action Plan, and what happens now that the survey is done? Join us to review survey data from 635 Carlsbad residents and learn about the next steps to build and develop the final action plan. The workshop invites community input with training on how to use the interactive online “Social Pinpoint Tool” which will engage resident participation as the city continues to collect and analyze priorities and preferences for the plan. With community insight, the goal of the action plan is to implement policies and programs to provide a livable community that fosters economic growth and enhances the quality of life for Carlsbad residents of all ages and abilities.
