Environmental sustainability is a top priority for the City of Carlsbad. The Sustainable Materials Management Division is dedicated to protecting the environment by encouraging businesses to reduce waste and helping them meet diversion requirements. We offer a variety of programs, including:

Sustainability Champion We recognize businesses that are leading the way in environmental sustainability as Sustainability Champions. These businesses showcase innovative and efficient sustainable practices. Interested businesses are encouraged to apply for consideration.

Bins for Businesses We support efforts to properly divert waste through organics and recycling collection by providing free compost (green) and recycling (blue) bins and educational signage to eligible businesses, while supplies last. The program has varied options for all business sizes and types. Submit an application to request bins for your business.

Outreach materials and technical assistance We help your business comply with state and local environmental regulations with tailored outreach and education. Additionally, we have a comprehensive set of resources to educate your staff and customers, including flyers, posters and a Solutions Manual & Product List.
