The Housing Choice Voucher program's income limits are based on a household's income at or below 50% of the Area Median Income (AMI) as set by the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Below is a chart showing the maximum household income that would meet the Very Low Income and Extremely Low Income guidelines, effective April 1, 2024:

  • Waitlist applicants who live and/or work in the City of Carlsbad and are in the extremely low income bracket receive preference.
