If you are a dedicated and experienced instructor and would like to learn about potential instructor opportunities in the areas of arts, sports, humanities, technology, athletics, health and wellness, please review the requirements below and email a completed instructional agreement available below.
Who are contracted instructors?
Contracted instructors provide a specialized activity or service to the community and are responsible for designing and executing their own program content.
Contract Instructors serve as independent contractors for the City of Carlsbad and are not considered employees. Instructors do not rent the facility, however a portion of the fees collected are retained by the city to cover facility usage, registration, administration, and promotion of the class.
How do I become a contracted instructor?
The City of Carlsbad accepts new instructors on an ongoing basis. Inquiries are reviewed based on the following criteria: community interest, current trends, facility availability, and instructor experience.
If your proposed class is accepted, the following steps are required before instruction can begin:
- Complete a LiveScan/fingerprinting
- Provide a negative TB test
- Obtain liability insurance through the city or coverage for the city with an outside provider
- Obtain a Carlsbad Business License
- Sign an instructional agreement
- Submit a W-9
